About Us

Bold City Brass, was originally founded in 1980 in Jacksonville, Florida as the Ancient City Brass. Today, under the artistic direction of Dr. Eric A. Becher, the Bold City Brass is proud to bring quality music to the N.E. Florida. Membership for the ensemble draws upon musicians from across region and is comprised of professional musicians, music teachers, and other fine musicians. From its inception, the band has always been a volunteer group, performing in concert and often in support of other organizations at a variety of events and official functions. 

The collective spirit of the band is based on the simple joy of making good music together. Over the years, the ensemble  has modeled itself after a variety of brass bands, including British brass bands, historical brass ensembles and traditional brass quintets and quartets that use historic valved instruments from the Civil War era. Originally, the musicians all perform on contemporary brass instruments. Under the direction of Artistic Director Dr. Eric A. Becher, the Bold City Brass has expanded its repertoire to include music from a variety of genres and periods including traditional band literature, sacred music, big band tunes, movie themes, and other popular music to the delight of appreciative audiences.
